Nkululeko Ncube took Black Rebel fashion under his Ara Kani label to the SA Menswear Week last week. He joined Taf the Tailor who exhibited his spring/summer collection there for the second time.

Ncube stepped into the limelight at the first Bulawayo Clothing Indaba in 2014, after completing a pattern-cutting curse at Bulawayo Polytec.

Ara Kani made its mark by dressing popular Zimbabwean personalities like Mbo Mahocs, Langa, Gilmore Tee and ASAPH but the soul of his fashion career is in South Africa, where his garments are manufactured and he shares a work place with other designers.
“My upcoming range is a Gothic collection in street monochrome. I am all about fighting the usual norms; I want people to realize just how much they can do with their clothes, just as cloth can be used in different ways.”
Ncube’s collection is aligned to his brand. Ara Kani Hebrew for the god of the Maverick and aims to provide affordable street wear for the average customer.
In the spirit of giving, Ara Kani took Thobekile Zondo and Gift Tsingano under its wing this year to show them the fashion industry’s ropes and will continue giving back to the community by grooming two young designers each year.
“We are working on putting our products in Zimbabwean stores. At the moment, people place orders directly to us via email or social media platforms. By the end of July, we will also be at Azzura.me.”
